Charities
The membership of The Friendly
Sons can be found actively involved in giving back to our communities in
ways that are too diverse and numerous to mention here. As a group
there is a sense of responsibility for those less fortunate than
ourselves that permeates the organization. A few of our public
acts of support go out to the following groups.
Project
Children:

This
charity gives an opportunity for young people from Northern Ireland,
Catholic and Protestant alike, to escape the turmoil in their home
neighborhoods. One story from a few years ago which conveys the
need for this charity was the Belfast youth, having recently arrived in
America, casually commenting, while passing a burned out portion of the
South Bronx, "Hey it looks like home."
Salvation
Army Christmas Season Fundraiser:
The
Friendly Sons are proud to hold the record for one day donations
received by The Salvation Army during their annual sidewalk bell ringing
fundraiser. Many a Friendly Son has commented how they were weary
of the commercialism surrounding this Holy Season and how they felt they
got more out of it than they gave. It truly has been a welcome
opportunity for our members to catch the Christmas Spirit while giving a
little something back to the community.
Morris Township and Morristown
Public Library Irish Heritage Project:
The Friendly Sons have joined the
libraries "Little Dublin" Project to promote the recording of Irish
history around and in the community known as "Little Dublin" in
Morristown NJ. During the mid 1800's until the early 1960's this
community was home to hundreds of Irish immigrants. May of these
immigrants were service workers in the large millionaires homes which
marked the Morris area. Additional information is available though the
Morris Township/Morristown Joint Free Public Library.
